Parades

Parades engage local communities, they encourage people to come out onto the streets of their centres and celebrate what’s great about where they live.

“Walk the Plank have a fantastic track record worldwide and we were thrilled with the initial response to the idea of a Manchester Day Parade. The final event was phenomenal – a massive coming together of the people of Manchester.

“Walk the Plank worked with the participants to put together some amazing, inventive, creative floats and it was clear from the reaction on the streets that a sense of pride in place came to life that day.”

Margaret Stephenson, Head of Events, Manchester City Council.

Created by Manchester People, commissioned by Manchester City Council and produced by Walk the Plank, Manchester Day Parade made its début in 2010. It involves around 3000 participants from across 90 of Manchester’s community groups and employs around 50 regional artists. The success of the event in its inaugural year and again in 2011, means the Parade stands firmly as a flagship summer celebration for the city.
