Creative Partnerships

Creative Partnerships is a nationally co-ordinated programme to provide school children with the opportunity to develop creativity in learning and to take part in cultural activities of the highest quality.

Work with Manchester and Salford Creative Partnerships has included: a science project with Year 9 students from Wentworth School, Salford; a nine-month project with all of Year 7 at St Peter’s School, Bellevue, Manchester; a contribution to the development of the Competence Curriculum at North Manchester High School for Boys; and Rock the Boat, working with Year 9 students to design and deliver a music event on board the theatre ship. In 2006 we worked on a project called ‘Hearts On Fire’, working with students from Year 8 in three schools in Stoke on Trent. The project used fire drawing to look at combustion, and engaged children through creative approaches to mapping and design work.

We are currently working with Creative Partnerships Thames Gateway on East Meets West in Essex, and with CP and Centre for Urban Education in Manchester to develop work around a new show, The Difference Engine: a steampunk adventure.

Winter Wonderland

An interactive installation focused on early years learning, for children and their parents and carers.

Originally commissioned for Sure Start in the West Midlands, and designed by Helen Davies and Rob Hill, this interactive installation lets children and their families explore a fantasy world full of icicles, polar bears and snowmen – an educational and fun experience for the under fives. Children are guided by costumed hosts through a land of snow and ice, having the opportunity to play snowman skittles, watch a pair of penguins ice-skating, pin a wish on the magical tree and discover play areas where they join in counting and spelling games in a uniquely appealing environment.

Winter Wonderland is filled with twinkling lights, mystifying shapes, sounds and sensations that will capture the imaginations of the children who experience it. The installation is suitable for any large indoor space and can be adapted for specific requirements.

The Bridgewater Way Arts Partnership

Walk the Plank were engaged by The Bridgewater Way Arts Partnership to make connections between the physical regeneration of the Bridgewater Canal, its towpath and its users – people who live, work, play, boat, fish, walk the dog by the Canal, connecting communities with history.

Highlights included the creation of a decorated bicycle, which made appearances at both the Halton Show and the Inland Waterways National Rally at Preston Brook, accompanied by a carnival parade created by children and young people in 2005 and Winter Fire and Light, a lantern and Indian dance project with local schools focusing on the Bridgewater and Diwali.

“A brilliant experience which will be remembered for many years to come!” Feedback from a participating teacher, Winter Fire and Light
