Her connection to the company began even before her official board appointment in 1996, when she played pivotal roles as Stage Manager, Front of House Co-ordinator, and even Cook on the Fitzcarraldo, Walk the Plank’s touring theatre ship in the early 90’s. Her calm demeanour and reassuring leadership in high-pressure situations – off stage, on site, on deck or in the galley - were crucial in managing our production and stage management teams. She worked as Show Caller on many major productions, and led numerous parades and processions as Head Stage Manager, often acting as a key link between the Event Manager, artists, and participants; and has mentored the next generation of stage managers and production teams.
As a Trustee, Sandra’s wide-ranging contributions have supported many of our achievements. Through her wealth of experience from the world of theatre, and keen eye for the artistic and creative direction of the company, Sandra has made a huge contribution to the company culture, and her strong advocacy for the needs of freelancers helped establish Walk the Plank as a company known for its inclusive and supportive environment.
Charlie Morrison, Executive Director, reflected on Sandra’s impact:
“To have a trustee as dedicated as Sandra is a rare thing—she gave us her time, insight, care, and support as a board member for almost 30 years. She’s been brilliantly committed, calm, considerate, and has always understood the company from its roots upwards. We are very fortunate to have had Sandra on our team for so long.”
Sandra Blue is Sandra’s chosen Equity name. In recognition of her enduring legacy and dedication to the company, we will be naming one of our spaces at Cobden Works, the “Sandra Blue Green Room.” Painted green, and referencing theatre’s traditional “green room”, this creative and relaxing space will serve as a hub for meetings and brainstorming sessions – while also acting as a nod to her ‘non-stage-name', Sandra Green!
We’d like to thank Sandra for her passion, leadership, and unwavering support - she will continue to inspire us for many years.
