What happens when football fans and opera singers find their voice together? That's the question at the heart of Perfect Pitch, a bold, joyful co-creation with English National Opera.

Where football and opera collide

From January to March 2025, we brought together ENO singers, football fans and community choirs from across Greater Manchester to chant and sing during a league-winning Bury FC game. Fans from Bury, Manchester Laces and Wigan Football Clubs cheered the home team to victory alongside the Bridgewater Hall Singers, Bury Fire Choir, Wigan Choral Society, West End Musical Choir, and Pop Vox Choir, and something remarkable was born.

Perfect Pitch at Manchester Day

Phase two in summer 2025 delighted Manchester Day audiences with a spectacular finale featuring a diva in a gondola, a singing referee and a football-playing baritone. Supported by 140 singing fans from our community choir and a ton of confetti.

Pitch Perfect: Going to the Match at We Invented the Weekend

Phase three saw 400 singers from community choirs across Greater Manchester participate. Perfect Pitch: Going to the Match at Salford's We Invented the Weekend, marked the project's final chapter: a performance which united the ENO Chorus, ENO singers and our mass choir in a spectacular, euphoric finale, including Puccini's Nessun Dorma, a piece forever linked with the spirit of the World Cup.
