An immersive outdoor installation exploring human biology through light, sound and fire.

As the COVID-19 pandemic raged around the world, inventor Richard Babington and Walk the Plank created BODY – a playful night-time immersive installation inspired by anatomical science.

The human body is a fragile and perilous thing – but it's also a place of wonder. BODY invites audiences on a journey through six different zones, mixing the magic of human biology with light, special effects, sound and fire.

Using cutting-edge technology to explore the science of the human form, BODY has been designed to inspire young and curious minds, and offers a range of options for educational engagement in STEAM subjects. The work is designed for installation in the grounds of museums and other venues, at festivals or at any other event that inspires curiosity.

BODY delighted audiences at its premiere, which took place in 2021 at the British Science Festival, and has also wowed audiences at the NI Science Festival 2022, Science Week 2022 in Dublin, Ireland and Beakerhead 2023 in Calgary, Canada.

BODY, Science Foundation Ireland, 2022, Naoise Culhane

'We are delighted that the British Science Festival has hosted the world premiere of Body. I think that our experience as a festival team and the experience of audiences in Chelmsford has been fantastic.'

Antonio Benitez – Head of Festivals, British Science Association

'The BODY exhibit emerged as an indomitable centerpiece, being more than an exhibit, but an experience – a journey that transcended the boundaries between art, science, and the human form. It was a testimony to the marvels of human physiology, narrating stories of our intricate design and the vast universe that resides within each of us.'

Parker Chapple, Executive Director, Beakerhead

‘One of the best things I’ve ever seen – magic made real.’

‘A beautiful, immersive and spectacular audio-visual delight!’

‘The playfulness, the spectacle, the multi-sensory experience, the science – all fab.’

‘The drama of the entire piece was just incredible!’
